Cornerstone’s story begins in the fall of 2008 when a group of fellow Christians felt God was leading them to form another church in Homerville. They met with Austin DeLoach, Jr., pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Lakeland, Georgia and Southside became the sister church for Cornerstone Baptist in Homerville.

Cornerstone had its first meeting on November 16, 2008. They met in the auditorium at the Municipal Complex building of Homerville, which was the old high school building that had been renovated. The worship team from Southside came each Sunday and led worship and then left to go back to Southside to lead worship there. Pastor Austin began preaching at both churches at this time. There were fifty-four charter members who joined Cornerstone on that November morning to begin the church. There were 94 in total attendance.

In 2009, Cornerstone began looking at land to purchase for the purpose of building a permanent building. They bought land on Highway 84 in Homerville and constructed a 12,000 square foot building. They began occupying that building on February 6, 2011. In 2022 Cornerstone began a 9,000 square foot addition to the original building, completing it in 2023. Austin DeLoach, Jr. continues to pastor both Cornerstone Baptist and Southside Baptist where God has blessed each church in many ways.
